Glad To Have - But They Don't Make Them Like They Used To

We had the misfortune of having our previous refrigerator die during the COVID 19 pandemic. We were lived for six months with a borrowed apartment sized refrigerator due to there being absolutely nothing available. Our previous model was a Frigidaire that was very similar to this, and we had very good luck with it for 17 years. I was interested in this model because it was of the same dimensions and appearance as our old one. However I am less than impressed with the replacement. I can only speak right now of the initial quality as we have only had the unit for about three weeks. The unit came undamaged and worked right out of the box with no issues. It has keep it's cool so far... As for noise, it is probably average. I would say its a tad louder than our previous unit, but it is not an issue. It might only be an issue if someone was sleeping in close proximity to it. Pros #1 - Attractive black finish. The doors are a smooth, gloss black. The sides are textured black.#2 - 20 cubic feet is a nice size. The unit is not gigantic, but has a nice capacity. A good basic refrigerator without a bunch of bells and whistles that look nice in a showroom, but that is just more to break. Cons#1 - The shelves in our previous model were half shelves that fit into an adjustable track in the back of the cabinet. They could be positioned at almost any height desired. This model has full shelves that fit into molded plastic tracks along the sides, and there are only four possible heights. The top and bottom most heights are almost useless, unless one is storing something very short. #2 - The shelves themselves are rather flimsy. They bow under moderate weight (1 or 2 gallons of milk, a quart or two of 1/2 & 1/2, a water pitcher, and some misc. light items). Our previous model had shelves that were far more sturdy and could hold at least that or more.#3 - The door shelves are similarly flimsy and one has to take care not to break them. I would be afraid to store a gallon of milk on the door for fear of breaking it.#4 - No light in the freezer. Our previous model did. In conclusion, It appears that Frigidaire has really cheapened up in the 17 years since we bought our last one. I hope this one lasts for even 10. However, that seems to be the case with a lot of things these days! The simplest thing I can say is that they don't make them like they used to! Its only too bad that our old one wasn't fixable.
